The Educational and Reach Out Programs

Gallery Espace has been working in the field modern and contemporary art scene of India for the last twenty years. Besides, showcasing the well known and upcoming artists in carefully curated shows, Espace has been publishing catalogues and monographs in order to reach out to a wider public.

Recognizing the needs of the Indian contemporary art scene, Gallery Espace has decided to refurbish and further its reach out programs in a new way. To bring the local communities towards Indian contemporary art, Espace has devised a series of programs. In 2008, Gallery Espace opened its three levels of exhibition space for the International Performance Art Festival conducted by the Khoj International Workshop in New Delhi. A Documentation Centre is being set up for students, visiting scholars and other art enthusiasts. Gallery Espace has already taken a great interest in promoting cutting-edge art by producing shows with unconventional art forms and their documentations.

Video Wednesdays at Espace is one of the latest additions to the series of reach out programs devised by the expert team at Gallery Espace, that include eminent artists, curators, critics and consultants. Video Wednesdays at Espace is a program that showcases the video works of three video artists on the last Wednesday of every month. By the end of twelve such programs a well documented book will be published on the video works and the artists who have already participated in this program.

Other Reach Out programs in Gallery Espace are: Space as Process (In this program, the upper level of the gallery will be given to artists who would use it as a space for process, culminating in a full-fledged installation. Espace Newsletter (This newsletter will inform a wider audience about the happenings in Gallery Espace. Also it will give extensive reportage on the shows, interviews with artists etc) Espace Excellence Award (Espace is planning to institute awards for young artists showing excellence in their respective fields. Unlike the existing awards, Espace Excellence Award will have a jury visiting artists studio all over the country and deciding on awards). Espace as Interactive Space (Gallery Espace throws open its doors for art lovers to engage with the works of art, artists, curators and critics. Each show in Espace will soon have Gallery tours and talk sessions).
